Dr. Alice Geis

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Rush University

Alice Geis DNP, APRN-FPA, PMHNP-BC (she/her) is a board certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, licensed with Full Practice Authority in Illinois. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Boston College, a master’s degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and a doctorate from Rush University.

She has held a number of clinical, administrative, academic and consulting roles. Leadership roles have included being director of an integrated health program and interim medical director at a community mental health organization, and director of a hospital-based psychiatric home care program. She’s been a member of a United Nations team investigating war crimes in the former Yugoslavia, served as a mental health program development consultant, and provided psychiatric clinical supervision for clinicians and leaders of various disciplines.

Her direct clinical work has incorporated both individual and group modalities, and includes psychiatric diagnostic evaluations, medication management, and health promotion with individuals with mental illness, multiple medical comorbidities, and substance use disorders. She has led groups focused in areas such as smoking cessation, mindfulness, healthy eating, and managing long-term illness, among others.

Dr. Geis has written articles and book chapters and presented about topics including integrated health teams, academic practice partnerships, and wellness/health promotion. Her current academic work involves teaching in the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Doctor of Nursing Practice program at Rush University in Chicago.
