Durham Police Captain

I was born and raised in Queens, New York. We lived in an apartment occupied by families that had migrated to the US from all over the world. Diversity and acceptance of different people and experiences shaped much of my childhood. Growing up, I was always curious and eager to learn, spending countless hours exploring books, nature, and new ideas. My parents encouraged my interests, fostering a love for creativity and learning that has stayed with me ever since. When I was 15, my family moved to North Carolina, which opened up a world of new experiences. When I graduated from high school, I attended North Carolina State University where I studied criminology, a subject that combined principles of sociology, psychology, criminal justice, and anthropology. I have always had a fascination with true crime and a curiosity for what makes people do the things they do. My college years were transformative, as I not only gained knowledge but also learned how to navigate life’s challenges, both academically and personally. After graduating college, I joined the police department. Currently, I manage the Criminal Investigations Division and oversee the Special Victims Unit, Robbery Unit, Property Crimes Unit, Cold Case Unit, and Homicide/Violent Crimes Unit. Professionally, I’ve had the opportunity to work in law enforcement for 15 years now, which has been both rewarding and fulfilling. Through my work, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for the resiliency of human beings, the strength of our communities, and our ability to come together and rebuild after tragedy. Outside of work, I enjoy painting, woodworking, traveling and yoga, which allow me to recharge and stay connected to what matters most to me; my 12 year old daughter, and my 8 year old son. Over the years, I’ve learned the importance of balance, personal growth, and maintaining strong relationships with those I care about. Looking ahead, I am excited to continue evolving both personally and professionally, always seeking new challenges and opportunities to make a positive impact.
